So if you are making a list for Santa or have a birthday or anniversary coming up, drop a hint or few, you won't be disappointed.
I have a few hand planes but my favorite for bamboo work is my Lie Nielsen 9 1/2 Standard angle block plane. It feels good in the hand, it happens to be the same width as the forms so it is easy to keep it level. The ductile iron body sends a lot feedback to the user. The plane irons are easy to work and the mass of the plane takes a chatter free cut. These aren't cheap but are excellent tools. The standard Stanley when well tuned with a good blade does a great job too and has made thousands of excellent rods.
